Electrical and Computer Engineering
4+1 Program
Save time and money by taking graduate-level courses during your senior year — paying the undergraduate tuition rate with scholarships and financial aid (if applicable) — and then complete your Master’s the next year.
For eligible students to complete their Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering/Computer Engineering and a Master’s of Electrical & Computer Engineering in five years
Steps
Students seeking to take advantage of the 4+1 program must first meet current University of Utah undergraduate admission standards, be accepted into the BS Electrical Engineering (EE) or Computer Engineering (CE) major and be in good standing within the major.
During your junior or senior year:
- Meet with your undergrad advisor to finish planning out your BS degree. If you have space in your schedule, plan to take up to 6 credits of graduate-level coursework.
During your final undergraduate semester:
- Meet with the Graduate Student Coordinator to review MS degree requirements
- Apply for MS program by deadlines
- Apply for BS graduation by semester add/drop deadline
Once admitted/during your first graduate semester:
- Meet with the Graduate Student Coordinator to complete transfer credit form
- Apply for MS graduation by semester add/drop deadline
Eligibility Criteria
- Complete all degree requirements
- Earn a B grade or higher for transfer credits
- Maintain a 3.0+ GPA
What's the difference between...?
Up to 12 credits transferred
3.3+ cumulative undergrad GPA
Only domestic students may apply
BS and MS degrees awarded at the same time
The 4+1 Program
Up to 6 credits transferred
3.0+ cumulative undergrad GPA
Domestic & international students may apply

Students who do not meet the requirements for either program can still look into completing graduate-level coursework either as a non-matriculated student or as a traditional MS student. Contact the Graduate Student Coordinator for specific advisement.
