Connecting students with recruiters and industry
professionals, the Utah Smart Energy Lab at the University of Utah held the second annual Utah Power and Energy Career Expo, Feb. 13, in the A. Ray Olpin University Union.
Over a dozen employers made their way to the University of Utah campus to sit down and talk with the people who will be the future of power and energy. Unlike the larger career fairs, the Utah Power and Energy Career Expo was full of specialized companies chosen for a specific group of students. The event was co-sponsored by the U’s Career & Professional Development Center and the Utah Governor’s Office of Energy Development.
“Here in Salt Lake City we actually have a surprisingly large number of companies that work in the [power and energy] industry, and without the Power and Energy Expo it would be very easy to miss these companies because some of them don’t come to the general career fair,” said graduate student and Utah Smart Energy Lab researcher, Alex Palomino.
Students heard from expert speakers and a panel of professionals including Utah Smart Energy Laboratory Director Masood Parvania, College of Engineering Dean Richard B. Brown, and Office Naval Research Program Officer Michele Anderson.
